I have an inner child, and she is in charge of buying me patent leather cowboy boots. If you have not found your inner child, I highly recommend getting acquainted.
Kronos Quartet March 1, 2010

You might see two violins, a viola, and a cello and assume that the Kronos Quartet is yet another stuffy string quartet, but you’d be wrong. Very wrong. I saw them waaaay back in the day when they performed in our college of music, and they made an impression on me back then for actively seeking out and commissioning music from contemporary artists and composers. I finally caught up with them again last Friday, when they played music from 4 Fences. It was damn cool.

I straddle two worlds – in the first, the past and future crowd out the present. The doors to the other world open to me when I lace up my skates for a game of hockey. This world is the present, and I am one with it.
A Poem January 8, 2010

I dream vividly – I often wake up just as my inner demons gain the upper hand over me, but sometimes, I connect with a profound inner strength and knowledge. In the dreams where I’m meeting my true self, she reveals herself through nature, water, and the animal world. I met a goose in one of those dreams, and so this poem moves me to tears.
Wild Geese by Mary Oliver
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You have only to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile, the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
I’m back, though I shouldn’t be. January 6, 2010

These posts brought to you by the power of the left hand. There’s something symbolic about typing only with my non-dominant hand, as I want to share things that have struck a chord with my emotional side. That being said, expect more than my normal brevity. ;)
First up, the synchronicity of my new favorite song, Unraveling, with my online class Unravelling.
